Prospect, OR Day 2

Tuesday, June 2, 2015

It is still cloudy today.  There are supposed to be showers off and on all day.  Because we do not have cell service and our Verizon mifi can't find a signal, we decided to go to the library (25 miles south) so Dusty could work on her blog.  She is behind several days. Her goal is to finish the last 3 days in May.

This is Lost Creek Lake.  We crossed it on our way south to the library in Shady Cove, OR.

The Shady Cove Library is right next to the Shady Cove City Hall.  This statue is as you turn into the joint parking lot.  Fishing is a big thing here.

Two hours later, Dusty finally quit working on her blog.  She did not quite complete her task, but got close.  Tic was getting bored.  We decided to leave and take in more local sites.

On our way back to Prospect we crossed the Rogue River.  Since there was a pullout, we had to stop for pictures.  This is looking up river.

The Rogue River is dammed up to create the Lost Creek Lake.  This is the Peyton Bridge that crosses the lake between Shady Cove and Prospect.  This whole area of Oregon has been so beautiful!

Our next stop was Flounce Rock Viewpoint.  It is at the top of a mountain where cell towers have been erected.

After about 8 miles of rough gravel road we finally made it to the cell towers.

From there we could see Lost Creek Lake, Mt Shasta, Crater Lake National Park, the Rogue River and probably more we did not know what we were looking at.
As we walked around, we got a better view of all of Lost Creek Lake.  It is huge!

A little further along the trail we saw a pet cemetary.  It was under a bunch of trees.  The dark clouds and the shade from the trees made it too dark to get pictures.

Once we got back to the paved road, we headed home.  In the park there is an easy hike to Upper Rogue River, so decided to take that hike.

Along the hike to Upper Rogue River we saw these wild roses.  They are so tiny.
We also saw these flowers on a gourd looking plant.  I thought the pedals looked crinkly sort of like crinkle fabric.
And one last tiny flower along out hike to the Upper Rogue River.

We reached the Upper Rogue River.  The river is much calmer here.

Look at the lava rocks with all the round holes and bowls. The rock is light in color because it is mostly ash & extreme hot lava flakes that land together.  The heat causes the ash to become hardened into rock.  Interesting!

There is a small stream of water flowing down this rock and on into the river.  See the little plant growing in the bowl in the center near the river water?

This shows how clear the river is here also.  That large boulder is complete submerged.  The river is deep here.

That is it for our exciting day today!
