Prospect, OR Day 1

Monday, June 1, 2015

Today we moved from O'Brien, OR to Prospect, OR.  We are staying at Crater Lake RV Park.  We are only 25 miles from Crater Lake.  It is raining today.  Mostly a light rain, but supposed to be overcast and scattered showers tomorrow also.

We have arrived.

This wagon is out front.  If I remember correctly, this Hwy was a stage coach route.

This is our parking site.  This park is definitely big rig friendly. The roads are wide enough for us to maneuver our 40 ft.  There are plenty of mostly level sites that are wide and long.  Most are back-ins, but that is fine with us.

Once we got set up and had lunch, we decided to go see some points of interest close by.

Here is Dusty ahead of Tic for a change.  We are crossing a piece of the Rogue River headed for the "Natural Bridge".  This natural bridge is actually a lava tube that the river flows through for a short distance.

This video shows the Rogue River rushing along, then disappearing into the lava tube.  It is amazing to see.  Hopefully this short video will show the power of this river.

This picture is from a viewpoint upstream after the river re-emerges and looking back at the foot bridge you saw Dusty crossing.

I thought this pine tree was unique looking.  I'm not sure what kind of tree it is, but it looks frilly.

Next we headed up the road a short distance to the Rogue River Gorge Viewpoint.

There is lots of foliage so getting a good picture of the river running through the gorge was difficult.

The gorge is narrow and the water is rushing very fast.

This is a little further downstream.

Here we are almost to the head of the gorge.

This is at the head of the gorge.  This part of the river is flowing over lava rocks.
This video shows how powerful the water is flowing over the lava rocks and down into the gorge.

Next we headed into the small town of Prospect.  There are some points of interest our campground mentioned to us.

This bridge crosses over the Rogue River Gorge downstream from our previous view of the gorge.

This picture is taken from the bridge looking upstream.  This whole area is gorgeous.

It was raining lightly now but we decided to take the hike to the Mill Creek and Barr Creek Falls.

We could not find a clear view of the Barr Creek Falls so had to take this movie.  We could not ever see the Mill Creek Falls at all.

We came home and went for a short hike from the park to Hidden Lake.

There is a dam that makes this lake.  This is part of the North Fork Hydroelectric System originally started in 1902.
This shows some water being released through the dam.
