Today we decided to make the drive up 89A from Cottonwood to Flagstaff. The drive was so gorgeous all the way. This post will be about the drive except for our stop at Slide Rock State Park which will be in a separate post.
This statue of the couple dancing actually turns round and round. It was neat! It was to represent a couple celebrating on their wedding day.
This cute statue of a little girl with an ice cream come was right in front of an old timey ice cream parlor.
We barely got north of town and came upon the trestle. We pulled out just in time to get a photo before we crossed it.
There was a pullout just after the trestle. This is the canyon the trestle crossed.
This mountain above and the mountain below were above the canyon.
One of these mountains was called Wilson Mountain. We thought that was fun!
We stopped at Slide Rock State Park next. Look for a separate post on that stop.
Here we are at the Oak Creek Canyon Vista. Oak Creek Canyon is a river gorge located along the Mogollon Rim in northern Arizona between the cities of Flagstaff and Sedona. The canyon is often described as a smaller cousin of the Grand Canyon because of its scenic beauty. Wikipedia
This sign was at the Oak Creek Canyon Vista. We did not get to see any of the animals shown except a lizard shown below.
We saw this lizard right next to where we were standing. Looks like he is growing a new tail.
This is more of Oak Creek Canyon.
At the end of the vista walkway, we could look down and see part of the road we came up.
Look at the switch backs we came up. The elevation at Oak Creek Canyon Vista is 6233 ft.
Flagstaff was just a short distance from here. At Flagstaff we turned around and went home the same route we took up. The temperature was about 75 degrees today. It was an absolutely beautiful day and drive. Another blessed day!
