Williams & Flagstaff, AZ

Sunday, April 26, 2015

Today we move from Dead Horse Ranch State Park near Cottonwood, AZ to Williams, AZ near the Grand Canyon.  It was warm at Cottonwood when we headed for Williams.

It got cloudier as the day went on.  Our route took us through Flagstaff.  As we got nearer to Flagstaff we started seeing snow on the mountains.

As we turned west onto I-40 there was snow on the sides of the road.  The temperature had dropped about 10 degrees by now.  We were surprised to see snow.

Between Flagstaff and Williams we crossed the Divide.

Before we got to Williams there was not any snow on the roadsides anymore.  Here we are driving into Williams.

Here is our parking site.  We are staying at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park.  It is a very nice fully paved park.  The sites are mostly level with full hookups, 50amp, free wifi and free cable.  There is a nice laundry facility and good showers.  My only gripe about the laundry facility is that there are only 5 washers & 5 dryers for the whole RV park (124 sites) and hotel guests.

We weren't finished setting up and having lunch until about 3:30 pmWe just decided walk around the park.
There is a steam engine that is used only occasionally, but this is not it.  Display only.
This is an old shay engine on display.
Here's a little information about this Shay No. 5.

Today we needed to go to Flagstaff to pick up some new fuel cards.  We applied with Pacific Pride to be able to stop at their stations.  Pacific Pride is all over the country.  They seem to be off the interstates which allows us to be able to get fuel away from the interstates.

We decided to eat breakfast at the buffet bar here in the park before we take off for Flagstaff.
It was a huge buffet with everything you could think of, including a design your own omelet bar.  We had a huge breakfast then headed to Flagstaff.

After we picked up our cards we headed to the Flagstaff Visitor Center.
We picked up some good information.  We decided to head for the East Entrance (Desert View) of the Grand Canyon.  Along the way we will see Sunset Crater and several Indian ruins.  See the next post.
