Slide Rock State Park, AZ

Wednesday, April 22, 2015 - Slide Rock State Park

Today we drove from Cottonwood through Sedona to Flagstaff.  The drive was absolutely gorgeous the whole way.  This post will be about Slide Rock State Park which is about the middle of the trip

We arrived at Slide Rock about 12:30pm so had our picnic lunch there.  Forgot to get pictures of the picnic area.

The above mountains were close to the picnic area.
As we were walking towards the creek this mountain was in front of us.
The cabins above and below were built in 1933 for tourists.

This is a pretty pool of water just under highway 89A, next to Oak Creek.
This is looking up the creek.  We could see people up the creek a ways but could not tell what was going on.
Here is another pool.  The water is so clear it is amazing.

We finally figured out that people were getting in the creek and sliding down the rocks down the creek.  The water felt cold to me, but I heard a couple of people say it was not THAT cold.
This is a short video of a person sliding down.

This kid was one of the people that said it was not THAT cold.  You know how kids are.
This looks like fun.  It would have to be much warmer outside for me to do it though.
Now we are looking down the creek.  The kid from above is just outside this picture.
It was fun to watch the people sliding down.  Here I am hiking back up out of the creek.
The mountains have such unique formations and colors.

Time to head on up the road.
