Sedona, AZ Day 2

Wednesday, April 15th, 2015 Tax day

Dusty did not get enough off-road yesterday, so at the Red Rock Ranger Station, they had suggested an "easy" off-road trip to the top of House Mountain.  It really was easy, but rocky bumpy the whole way.  The photo below is an example of part of the trail we encountered.
Dusty took this picture about 2/3 of the way up the hill.

Tic is heading up the hill.  There is a ledge near the center of the photo that makes this fun.

And then, continue up the hill and make a sharp left turn just past the tree.

And don't forget to close the gate behind you!  There is livestock wandering about somewhere up here.

It was Noon when we reached this point, so we parked and had the lunch that we had packed.
In the distance is Humphreys Peak at Flagstaff.
Humphreys Peak is the highest natural point in the U.S. state of Arizona, with an elevation of 12,637 feet and is located within the Kachina Peaks Wilderness in the Coconino National Forest, about 11 miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona.  Can't make it out?  Let me zoom in a little.

Now, I know you can see it.  I will back out a little more.

Now you can probably find it in the earlier picture.  Time to move on.

From House Mountain, you are looking East at the Sedona airport, located on the flat top in front of you.  We had fun on this bumpy ride, the trail markers were poor and the hardcopy map did not accurately describe the route, but we managed to come out exactly where we planned.  We covered 23 miles in only 5 hours.  Fun but tiring.
