It has been raining or overcast for 3 days so the sunshine is nice to see.
This bridge crosses the Peace River just down stream from the WAC Bennett Dam.
This monument stands at the ends of the bridge.
This is the WAC Bennett Dam from the bridge. This dam produces 25% of all power for all of British Columbia. WOW!
It has also created the largest body of fresh water called Williston Lake in B.C.
As we proceeded up the road, we drove through a small burg named Hudson Hope. It had a nice outdoor museum. I had to get pictures.
The town of Hudson Hope is on the edge of the Peace River. I took this picture standing on at bench at the outdoor museum.
The countryside was so pretty as we continued our drive. I'm not sure what I expected, but this was not it.
This is one of several 10% grade hills we traversed today.
This view is at the top of one of the 10% grade hills. We were told that another dam is going to be built and the valley you are looking at will be flooded. People here are not happy and you can't blame them. They are loosing everything.
We made it to Dawson Creek BC the start of the Alaska Highway.
In Dawson Creek was Pioneer Village. I had to get a few pictures.
This picture above and 2 below are of Fred Taylor's house. He was prominent in the area around the 1930s.
Interesting directions for use.
This was the Dawson Creek Schoolhouse in 1916.
Communications with the police in the 1940s was interesting. Read how they communicated in this small town.
This is a pinball machine that was for sale in the general store in the late 1940s to 1950s. Below is the general store it was found in.
The "saddlebag preacher" held services at this and a few other churches.
Outside of Dawson Creek on the "Old Alaska Highway" is the only surviving wooden bridge built in 1942.
The Kiskatinaw bridge has a 9% curve in it and the wood is actually curved.
View from the underside of Kiskatinaw Bridge crossing the Kiskatinaw River. Don't ask how Tic got this shot. I about had a hissy.
We drove on and spent the night in Fort St. John at Coffee Creek RV park. It started raining about dinner time and rained all through the night. We head on to Sikanni Creek RV in Sikanni Chief BC tomorrow.
