Today we plan to make a driving loop to Kaslo BC to New Denver BC to Nelson BC and back to campground.
Kaslo BC is touted to be the prettiest town in British Columbia.
Coffee Creek
Woodbury Creek
We stopped and had our picnic lunch along Kootenay Lake in Kaslo. We saw this pretty little duck.
Kaslo City Hall looks like a majestic old building.
The mountains went straight into Kootenay Lake. Beautiful!
This is the SS Moyie is the oldest intact sternwheeler. It is now a museum available for tours. We did not take the tour as a class of junior high children were about to go on tour.
As we walked through town I saw this beautiful flowering tree. Tic got a closeup of the flowers for me. I have no clue what kind of tree this is.
The next several pictures are of places in Kaslo we found interesting.
This wooden carving was in a city park just off Main Street in Kaslo.
These townhomes and marina were just across the little inlet from where we saw the eagle carving.
The carvings above and below were around in Kaslo also.
The Kaslo Hotel
The next 3 pictures are of flowers that were in one person's yard.
As we were driving out of Kaslo, we saw a Heritage Marker sign and stopped. It was on the Kaslo River that flowed into the Kootenay River in Kaslo. A special hiking trail was created by volunteers. This bridge was built across the Kaslo River.
This movie is of the Kaslo River as seen standing on the bridge pictured above.
As we were driving on Hwy 31a from Kaslo toward New Denver we stopped at a rest stop. Absolutely breathtaking!
Lyle Creek was another creek flowing off a mountain side.
Fish Lake was another rest stop area with pit toilets. Isn't this a gorgeous site!?! The lake is so still the reflection of the trees is amazing. See the picture below for a closeup.
The clouds are building and rain is predicted for the afternoon. This is Hwy 31a still. Look at the snow capped mountain in the distance. Not sure if you can tell but it looks like it is snowing on that mountain now.
It did cloud over and rain most of the rest of the trip. We had a wonderful drive and saw so much beauty in such a short distance.
We stopped at the store and saw these. We asked a lady in the produce area and she told us they were the most delicious things especially when sautéed with onions & garlic. We were told fiddleheads are newly developing ferns.
So here is dinner. The fiddleheads did not have much flavor by themselves. If it wasn't for the onions and garlic it would have been bland. Maybe I didn't fix them correctly. They weren't bad but not great by any means.
