Liard Hot Springs Provincial Park BC

Saturday, June 17, 2017

This morning we only have 2 hours to go and we are not supposed to check in until 1 pm so we are not in a hurry to leave.  BTW, the clouds rolled in and it rained all night until about 7am this morning.

I forgot to mention that yesterday on our way to Toad River, we stopped at Tetsa River Services & Campground for a cinnamon bun.  They claim their cinnamon buns are the best in the "center of the galactic cluster".  I actually bought 2 of these huge buns.  We shared one yesterday at lunch and had this one this morning for breakfast.

Tic got some pictures of some little birds, martins I think. The little bird above went inside the box.  The bird below flew up to the opening and would stick its head in and out of the hole as if talking to the bird inside.  It was fun to watch.

We are finally on our way headed to Liard Hot Springs.
At Muncho Lake we saw more stone sheep. Notice the ram on the right only has one horn and it is cracked.  Wonder if he lost the fight?

We are headed into more rain, but I see blue sky in the distance.  Maybe we will have sunshine today.

We have arrived at Liard Hot Springs Provincial Park.  We have a nice site.  It is not very level and we are boondocking. The site is spacious and it is not a far walk to the hot springs. It is partly cloudy now.  We are glad it is not raining.

The hot springs flow into this area at the far end near the bridge you see. The temperature is about 126 degrees F when it enters.  By the time the water gets to the stairs you see, the temperature has dropped to about 110-113 degrees F. The pool has a gravel bottom and some benches were put along one side.  Otherwise all is natural. It was very relaxing.

Tic is standing on the bridge you can see in the prior picture.
The bridge leads to a trail that leads to the "hanging garden". There were several streams of water running down a wall.  Unfortunately the flowers were not blooming today.

These are the flowers that frequently bloom here.

There were lots of wild roses around.

This interesting looking ground cover was thick.  We asked and it is called horse tail. It is more like a reed than grass.

We were lobsters so decided to head home.  I thought I would go back after dinner.  BUT it started raining and ended up raining all night.  So Tic and I played cribbage.  Tic won 2 out of 3 games.
