We woke to rain again today. However we are moving to Teslin, YT and hopefully it will not be raining by the time we arrive.
It looks like rain for a ways.
Just before we enter the town of Teslin, we stopped at this overlook of the Nisutlin Bay Bridge, which is the longest water span on the Alaska Highway at 1,917 feet. The bridge is iron grating and as vehicles cross over the grating, it makes a unique humming sound that can be heard a long way off. The Nisutlin River forms the bay and flow into the Teslin Lake which is 86 miles long. BEAUTIFUL!!
After we got to our campground, got set up and had lunch, we went exploring. Forgot to take a picture of our campsite for the night.
We went to the Teslin Tlingit (Klink-it) Heritage Center. There were 5 totem poles greeting us.
I believe this is the Eagle above and the Frog below.
All 5 show here. The Raven Children, Frog, Wolf, Beaver and Eagle.
They had several pretty hanging baskets. I had to get my flower picture in.
Masks are very important to their ceremonies. These are a few of them.
Teslin Lake is 86 miles long. Below we took a picture of the Dawson Peaks on the other side of the lake from this viewpoint.
Dusty found a moose that she could befriend. Our grandson, Rux, would have gotten this if it wasn't so hard to get it to him.
At the museum in the RV park were lots of local animals that succumbed to death from natural reasons. This snow owl grabbed my attention.
These 2 large male caribou got their horns tangled and could not get them untangled. They ended up dying of exhaustion and starvation. We had seen a film saying that when 2 males fight, this was one of the greatest hazards for them.
Bison are all around here. Basically I put this in to say it reminds me of my bad hair days. Hee Hee
The rain stopped but it stayed cool and overcast all afternoon. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny, but we will be moving on.
