Nelson, BC

Thursday, May 30, 2017

Today we crossed the US/Canadian border.  In my mind that means we officially start our journey to Alaska!  I'm as excited as a kid waiting for Christmas.

Our first stop was the Walmart Supercenter in Nelson, BC.  It was on Front Street which was along side the Kootnay River. This picture was from the parking lot.  PS Walmart here does not carry food.  We shopped at Save On food store.

This picture is taken from the orange bridge seen in the above picture as we crossed the Kootnay River headed to the Kokanee Creek Provincial Campground.

Cool picture of the bridge as we cross it.

Above and below are pictures of the campground area.  There are several sandy beaches, this one is closest to us.  Below is another picture of the park area.

This is our campsite for the next 3 nights.  We have electric only. Potable water is just a short distance away and a sani-station is available at a charge of $5.

Along our way to the campground we saw this "house".  I saw the name SS Nasookin on it, so I researched on the internet.  It says due to poor mouring, the ship settled on old wharf pilings causing it to break into two.  These people scrapped and restored this much of the boat and made it their house.  Unique!

Lilac bushes with various shades of purple are everywhere.  The fragrance is wonderful!

It was after 4pm by the time we got settled so we plan to start our exploring of the area tomorrow.
