Sunday morning we woke to rain again. It rained most of the night. We are getting used to being in the rain. No problem. We are truly blessed to be able to travel like we are.
Today we head to Watson Lake in the Yukon Territory.
We barely got down the road when we saw the cow moose and her calf. Oh so precious!
Then a only a short distance we saw a small herd of buffalo.
Look at the size of this bull!
This cow had 3 calves around her. Wonder if she had triplets???
Looks like blue sky coming. We are hoping for a sunny day!
Wow the country side is stunning in this part of the country.
Here we are in the sunshine driving along the Smith River.
We made it to the Yukon. It's exciting to be accomplishing our bucket list dream of going to Alaska. Feeling so blessed.
We are in the Sign Post Forest. It was started in 1942 by a homesick military person. He put a sign stating his home town's name and what direction it was and how many miles. Now people from all over the world come and put up their sign(s).
Behind Dusty, in the middle of this "forest" is some of the equipment used to build the Alaska Highway in 1942.
According to the visitor center, there are 72,000 signs at last count. It grows daily and covers a little over 2 acres at this time.
This is our home for the next 2 nights. It is really just a big gravel lot and the spaces are very tight. All the sites do have full hook-ups which is nice. They have a very nice laundry and free showers. We have cell service and wifi after 3 days of no service. This will be just fine for catching up on laundry and blogging.
Wye Lake is just across the street. Dusty took a walk around the lake.
Along the walk she saw lots of Arctic Lupine. Delicate little flowers. There were lots of wild roses also.
This is Dusty's attempt at being artistic. What do you think? It is just a dried plant.
Black spruce are abundant here. I did not know they had medicinal uses.
I always thought dandelions were just a nuisance weed. Look at all the uses.
Monday, we drove out to the lake, Watson Lake. We were blessed again to be able to watch a golden eagle hunting. Twice we saw him dive for the water with his talons out then at the last minute stop and lift upward. We guess the fish went deeper. It was cool to watch.
Watson Lake is long which makes it good for sea planes.
We saw several sea planes similar to this one which happens to be parked at someone's lakeside house.
This building is from 1942. It is at the Watson Lake Airport.
Looks like the storms are coming so we decided to head home. At least the morning was sunny. Tomorrow we move on into Yukon Territory.
