Our friends had invited us to come to Stillwood as we parted ways in AZ. We are so glad we decided to make it happen.
http://www.stillwood.ca/ is an amazing Christian based facility that hosts children from many continents.
We arrived at the main building, and went in to register. They were expecting us and immediately radioed our friends. Oh, we did not take our phones with us to Canada, as we do not have an international phone plan, and were told we could run up a huge phone bill in a hurry. Radios worked well at this facility.
Do you see the yellow bicycle? Ellie rode up to the main building to greet us, and then we started a whirlwind tour. This is the entrance to the kitchen-dining area. We were told that the children would be staged before entering, otherwise it would be chaos.
This is the dining area for the entire camp, children and staff. It is after breakfast and before lunch and some chairs are up on tables to allow cleaning of the floor.
This gazebo is the main location for staging of the children before meals. Children are grouped by cabin and compete by playing games or singing songs to see who gets to be first or next in line. Everyone gets fed and fed well.
This building is the gymnasium, chapel, game center. The cylindrical portion houses a climbing wall.
Moments before I took this photo, the wall was covered with children. Then a horn blew, and they rushed out the door to their next activity.
A beautiful pool, and ....
flotation jackets in many sizes. The facility has several boats and the lake is nearby.
and of course, always adult supervision. This is a view of the lake from the camp. It is not foggy, there was a forest fire and the smoke was heavy. We did not smell the smoke and we were in no danger, but it was sufficient to make longer distance photo taking a problem.
Back in the forest, was the amphitheater. It will hold a lot of children at one time! Too big to get it all in the frame.
There were also many cabins, individual, and condo style. For reasons of privacy, we did not take any photos there.
However, there were some rooms, evidently for one night use that were very unique.
Tall enough to keep the bears out, with rope ladders.
We were told that they had bunk beds, 3 beds high and could sleep 20.
And, in addition to the climbing wall indoors, there was another area with archery, and a climbing wall.
You may notice the dates on these photos will jump between the 11th and the 12th, but I have tried to organize them in a logical way to show you ALL we did in that short time.
Part 3 will be a trip up Fraser Canyon.
