Traveling to Ferndale, WA

Sunday, August 9, 2015

Today we move from Chimacum on the Olympic Peninsula to Ferndale, WA on the northwest coast of Washington.  We decided to take the ferry from Port Townsend to Coupeville.  This will be the first time we have put our "home" on a ferry.  Tic is very nervous.  He can be a worrier.

We had reservations for the 11am ferry.  We were instructed to arrive 30-45 minutes early.  We arrived by 10am.  This turned out to be GREAT!  We got to go on the 10:15am ferry.

Here we are waiting in line to board the ferry.  It was cheaper to drive the Jeep separate than to tow it on the ferry due to the combined length of the two vehicles.

They loaded us first and the people right behind us second. Plenty of room.

As we headed out of Port Townsend, I noticed this large boat with a big flag and a lighthouse.

Here is a closeup of that boat.  I can't tell if the flag is on the boat or not. The flag looks large for the boat if it is on the boat.

Here is a closeup of the lighthouse.

Tic took this picture from inside the coach looking off the front of the ferry.  It is about a 30 min trip.

This is Tic's view from the coach as we approach our landing. Dusty is heading to the Jeep.

Here we are about ready to dock near Coupeville.

The ramp has settled down on the ferry and the walking passengers are getting ready to disembark.

After the walking passengers, we were first to drive off.  We found a large parking lot where we could hook up again.

Shortly after we left the ferry, this was our view.  This appeared to be a big farming area with a large variety of crops.

In Oak Harbor, part of the road was closed for the PIGFEST!   We did not stop, even though I thought it would be fun! ☺

Further along our way, we started to see mountains.  The clouds in the sky were pretty also.

We arrived at the Cedars RV Campground about 1pm.  Our site is very wide and long and mostly level with cedars between each site.  This is a nice campground.  It is part of our Coast to Coast membership. Our stay here only cost us the tax.  Not bad.  We will stay here a week.

As I walked out to get some sunset pictures, I saw this mountain peak.  I was told it was Mt. Baker at 10,775 ft elevation.  The setting sun made the snow look pink.

This is the start of the sunset.  It was getting more cloudy.

This is our last sunset picture of the evening.  You can see the clouds are building.

Another beautiful way to end a blessed day!
