Chimacum, WA and Port Townsend, WA

Sunday, August 2, 2015

Today we moved from Elma, WA to Chimacum, WA on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington.  We are staying at the Escapees Evergreen COHO SKP Park.

This is the entrance.

This bench and dolls are sitting under an apple tree! ☺

Here's the office.  Cute mailbox.

We arrived and found that the office was closed on weekends.  They had posted our name on a board outside showing us which space we were assigned.  However there was someone occupying that space and told us he was not moving.  We called the phone number left on the door.  Eventually we were given a space and told we would have to move in a day or two.
We started in a really wide spot with a concrete pad to sit out on.  We even had 50amp.  We were happy staying in this spot.

After we got set up and had lunch we decided to drive to Port Townsend.

On the way we passed through the small town of Port Hadlock.  This was their marina.

Then we crossed this bridge onto Indian Island.  If we turned left, there was a naval compound.  We turned right into a little fishing spot.

This picture is taken from the same spot only looking away from the bridge. We are looking towards Puget Sound.

When we leave Chimacum, we plan to take the coach on the ferry from Port Townsend to Coupeville.  Tic wanted to check out the process of loading the ferry.  The big boat in the middle of this picture is the ferry on its way to Coupeville.

We decided to drive into the main part of Port Townsend.

After we parked, we headed to the main street next to the water.  This was a cute little hotel called "The Swan".  It advertised it was dog friendly also.  I'd hate to have to walk the dog regularly if I was on the 3rd floor.

This log had 3 turtles carved on it.

This was a pretty area with this nice covered viewing deck.

We saw lots of sailboats, but this 2 masted wooden sailboat caught our eye.

We walked around this building.  There was a sign that said it was originally a cannery that had been converted to a private residency.  Interesting.

Port Townsend is also known for the many Victorian buildings remaining from its late 19th-century heyday. I'll be putting several building pictures below.

This turned out to be the town post office.

We also came upon this bell tower.  The sign posted said this tower was built in 1890.  It was used for more than 50 years to call volunteer fire fighters to their post. It is the only known
tower of its kind in the United States.  It was restored in 2003.

After we got back from Port Townsend, we found out that we had to move to our new spot.  So we did.
Here's our new spot.  It is not near as wide and we only have 30 amp.  Oh well, it averages just under $20 per night so can't complain.

Near sunset this evening, we saw this cloud formation.  I thought it was our guardian angel watching over us.

The sunset was outstanding this evening!! What a wonderful way to end the day.
