British Columbia, Canada, part 4 of 7

Tuesday, August 11, 2015

If you are keeping up, this is still the same day.  We have had our picnic lunch, blasted thru curves, hills and tunnels and now have pulled into the parking lot at Hell's Gate.

We board the tram, and descend.

When we get to the "bottom", we are going to walk across the suspension bridge.

You cannot tell from here, but the walkway on the bridge is boxed steel or grate, and you can see through it to the water.
May 28th, 1948 the water was only about 6 feet below the bridge.  The structure you see at the base was under water.

Looking back to where we boarded the tram, you can see this structure built into the cliffs.  It is a railroad track/tunnel.
Tic climbed back up the hill from the bridge to get a picture.

This is a peek back to give some perspective on our tram ride.  We are standing on the bridge, watching the tram. Beautiful, majestic, with the powerful Fraser River below us.

Fraser River.  There is a saying that still water runs deep.  Well this water is not still AND it is deep.

These two posters probably tell you more than I would.  If I remember correctly, they told us the depth of the river at the time of our visit, was approximately 128 feet deep.

This is where we learned about the two railroad tracks, one on each side of the canyon.

Tiny chair for the two of us.  A number of murals and unique displays,  Ice cream too!

A representation of how Simon Fraser and his guides first traversed the canyon.

One of several murals.

One last long look up at our starting point, then "all aboard", and back to higher ground.
