British Columbia, Canada, part 3 of 7

Tuesday, August 11, 2015

So here we are at part three of this series, still the same day.
We have a picnic lunch packed and our gracious hosts have announced that we are going to go to Fraser Canyon.
Down off the hillside, where we had to purchase fuel for the car, ($6.00/gal in B.C.), and sweet corn for dinner.
For what it is worth, Sparkes triple sweet jubilee sweet corn is the best sweet corn at any price.

Keep in mind that there were fires burning in the forest and smoke was drifting everywhere cutting visibility.  That is the haze in the background.

Before long we stopped at a roadside picnic area.  This lake was adjacent to the picnic area.
The air may have been hazy, but the water was soooo clear.

The ladies have fixed lunch, time for the boys to come and get it!  Baked chicken and broccoli salad!

Another traveler snapped our picture at the picnic area.

We followed the Fraser River on the TransCanadian Highway #1

Around every turn is another majestic view.

Did I mention tunnels?  There are seven tunnels carved thru the mountains.

One of two railroad tracks on the bridge in the background.
There are actually tracks on each side of the river.

If you look close, you can see a second tunnel beyond this one.

This tunnel is what you find when you are with people that know the area.  This is a tunnel that was used years ago, but abandoned rather than reinforced or reconstructed.  Hand made.  If you did not know where it is located, you would drive right past it.
Next, a stop at Hell's Gate, part 4.
