Today we moved from Ferndale on the Washington coast inland to Lincoln Rock State Park near E. Wenatchee, WA. The main reason for this route is to see the town of Leavenworth, WA. We had lots of people tell us it is a must.
As we turned east on US Hwy 2 out of Everett, we got our first glimpse of the mountains we will cross today.
Here we are on our way up Stevens Pass.
We are very close to the peak here. It peaks at 4,061 ft elevation. I like the low clouds around the 3 peaks.
The mountains are starting to look a little different.
The sky is getting hazy. We are thinking wildfire smoke.
As we rounded a curve we could see this sky area. We passed many ski areas and I'm no sure which one this is.
As we got closer to Leavenworth, WA the smoke was thick enough to smell.
The roads are pretty curvy most of the way.
The smoke keeps getting thicker and the smell stronger. By now we are wondering if the state park we are headed to will be open.
The mountains are starting to have less trees at the top, but we are not at a high elevation. We are close to Leavenworth now. We will drive on through Leavenworth to E. Wenatchee and the Lincoln Rock State Park.
I will make Leavenworth a separate post.
OMG, look how thick the smoke is. We just make the last turn towards the state park. We have about 9 miles to go.
Suspense is mounting. Will the state park be open????
See the next post. ☺
